The Elbe island with the motorhome site and the Elbe from above

The Elbe Island of Wilhelmsburg

Your island is called Wilhelmsburg. Beach, Inselpark and harbour views on Europe's largest inhabited river island.

A holiday on an island

Wilhelmsburg covers around 35 square kilometres and is Hamburg's largest district. From the site you can reach the beach and the park by bike in just under half an hour. And when someone at home asks where you went on holiday: an island. Which is true.

Finkenriek Elbe beach

300 metres of sand on the Süderelbe. Between the old railway bridge and the Schweensand nature reserve, with a bit of luck you'll see sheep grazing on the dyke. 5 kilometres, around 16 minutes by bike. Swimming is allowed, but because of the currents only for confident swimmers.

Wilhelmsburger Inselpark

100 hectares for sport, nature and gardens: Bäderland swimming pool, the HanseRock high ropes course, a climbing hall, a skate park, five playgrounds and, in summer, the Atlantis water playground. On the Kuckucksteich the Willi Villa hires out canoes and SUPs. 5.5 kilometres, around 22 minutes by bike.

Waterworks and Energy Bunker

The Wilhelmsburg waterworks from 1911 is one of the oldest landmarks of Hamburg's water supply. A little further on stands the Energy Bunker, once a flak bunker, today a power plant for the island. From the terrace at the top you can see across the harbour and the city.

Windmühle Johanna

A real windmill in the middle of Wilhelmsburg. A local association looks after it and opens it on special days such as German Mill Day.

BallinStadt

The emigration museum on the Veddel tells the story of the people who set off for America via Hamburg. Afterwards, fried fish at the Veddeler Fischgaststätte.
